The power of information

Jones Lang LaSalle is pleased to congratulate our friends at the Carbon Disclosure Project on winning the prestigious Zayed Future Energy Prize for NGOs and SMEs. This recognition is well deserved but not easy to get.

The Zayed Future Energy Prize was created four years ago to recognize leadership and innovation in sustainable development and to encourage effective long-term approaches to energy consumption. This year, the Awards attracted 1,103 nominations and 425 submissions from participants in 71 countries. Three winners were selected after a rigorous four-tiered evaluation process.

Despite the level of competition for the prize, CDP surely must have stood out. The organization has influenced more than 3,700 companies and cities to measure and disclose their greenhouse gas emissions, climate change risks and water strategies. This has resulted in the world’s largest data pool of energy and sustainability data for investors, consumers and citizens to identify companies and cities that are acting most responsibly in relation to climate change and water use. We know some of the folks at CDP very well through our partnership on their CDP Cities program, which already is starting to have the same transformative effect on cities that CDP has had on the corporate landscape over the past decade.

In accepting the award, CDP Executive Chairman Paul Dickinson, said: “We have been working hard for over a decade to reduce greenhouse gas emissions around the globe by using the power of information. We believe we are catalyzing real change across the global business system through measurement, reporting, transparency and analysis, creating the win-win scenario of profitable, low carbon growth.”

Using the power of information to catalyze change may sound like a simple concept, but applying it to sustainability in companies and cities is a highly complex process. Through our partnership with CDP, we hope to play a small part in the transformation of cities to a clean economy that can be sustained for the long term.
